Industrial

Excursion

Cornwall
played a very important part in England’s Industrial Revolution. The extensive
Tin and Copper mining carried out here during the 18th and 19th
centuries led to major world-wide innovation and development of mechanical
machinery such as pumps and steam engines forming the base from which many types
of machinery used in industry today has derived.
Our
Industrial Heritage Excursion shows you in detail some of the innovation that
took place at this time. We start by travelling from Mullion to the Cornwall
Industrial Discovery Centre at Camborne, where we’ll spend an hour viewing
the old engine houses, steam engines and pumps which serviced the tin and copper
mines.

On
leaving we travel to West Cornwall along the coastal route, providing some of
the most spectacular cliff scenery in the world, to
Geevor Tin Mine, where we shall
view the actual mine workings from underground.
We will lunch at the café at Geevor before travelling on to Porthcurno where we visit the Telegraph Museum which at one time was the worlds largest international cable station, providing information transfer around the globe by cable.
