Art Excursion
West Cornwall has played an important part in international art for more than a century, attracting artists with its unique light, scenery and almost tangible sense of mystery. This remains true today and there is a large artistic community based in Cornwall producing a rich variety of art from the traditional to the most contemporary, displayed in the numerous galleries, together with exhibitions of significant artists from across the world. It is also possible to see many examples of the inheritance in paintings and sculpture from the late 19th century, particularly those associated with the famous St. Ives movement, including influential European and American artists.
Our excursion will take you firstly to the St. Ives -Tate Gallery, showing a selection of work from the national Tate collection and from contemporary artists, local and international, then to the Barbara Hepworth Museum with its exquisite sculpture garden. We then drive to Penzance to have lunch at the Penzance Arts Club, a focus for much of the art activity in the area. We stay in Penzance and in turn direct our interests towards more traditional art which is exhibited at the Penlee House Gallery and Museum, with their always popular Newlyn School paintings. We can arrange for you to visit the Newlyn Orion gallery during their various special exhibitions. If you have any other particular interests in the commercial or other galleries in the area we can point you in the right direction.
